Welcome to the Los Angeles Times Home Magazine Advertising Archive.

This exhaustive companion piece to our Los Angeles Times Home Covers Collection spans all the issues in the archive, with one caveat: while virtually all the interior pages were digitized, some were omitted. Those exclusions boiled down to articles on gardening, floral arrangements, the table of contents and letters to the editor. However, if anyone is searching for an old article describing the analysis replicating alternative hypotheses for early angiosperm phylogeny, please reach out and I will dig up what I can.

The bulk of magazine advertising was furniture, especially during the 1960's and 1970's. That section clocks in at just over 300 pages, with primary spots coming from two Los Angeles furniture giants: RB Furniture and Angelus (though Riviera holds up their end just fine).

Of interest to many people will be the Articles. Much of the focus was on Southern California architecture and major trends in home design. Here you will find everything from cantilevered Coldwater Canyon homes to carefree apartment living in West Hollywood. Noted photographer Julius Shulman was behind many early images.

These are all full-size scans, so please allow time to load. I will be making the articles searchable in the near future. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at jj@adsausage.com
